There are substance abuse programs available in or near Littlerock that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will ideally not become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and this is encouraged.
