Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Olga, WA.

There are recovery programs offered in or near Olga that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will instead no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do deliver a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
