The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehab facilities, which are centers that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Valley are programs who are legally allowed to distribute the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive ancillary benefits in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation program can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment center is certified, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of certification that was given.
