Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Baldwin, WI.

There are programs available in or near Baldwin which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will ideally not engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment objective is to handle the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and it is encouraged.
