Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Glen Flora, WI.

There are programs offered in or near Glen Flora which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate addicted client will instead not engage in addict behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is encouraged.
