Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Grand Marsh, WI.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Grand Marsh that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will ideally not engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a small amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is encouraged.
