At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment objective is to address the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do provide a limited amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
