There are programs available in or near Owen that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.
Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
