American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to need recovery services for substance abuse and addiction. Reversely, American Indians and Alaska Natives are also more prone to feel the need to seek treatment than other racial/ethnic groups. Almost 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native substance abuse treatment admissions show up to rehab as criminal justice clients, which means they have very likely accepted a court ordered diversion program to go to treatment in lieu of jail times for their charges. So as you can see, there is definitely a need for a variety of service types to provide services for all of the various requirements of American Indian or Alaska Natives, including substance abuse treatment programs in native languages.
One of the challenges that American Indian and Alaska Natives in Redgranite face is access to effective rehab programs, particularly those who reside in rural regions. There have been numerous grants offered in recent years to cover these types of services for American and Alaska Native clients, which have very effectively established treatment programs which provide evidence based treatment that also incorporates culturally sensitive rehab services including those in their language which are performed by bi-lingual staff members.
