Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - Rockland, WI.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Rockland that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will ideally no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to treat the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do deliver a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary treatment, and this is encouraged.
