Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Rudolph, WI.

There are programs offered in or near Rudolph which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors that cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do deliver a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
