Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Sherwood, WI.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Sherwood that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will instead no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to address the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do deliver a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and this is encouraged.
