Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Siren, WI.

One of the outpatient rehabilitation alternatives for people in Siren who are battling with opioid dependence and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some clinics and doctors are certified to give certain meds to opioid dependent people, many that are opioid-based themselves and are addictive. With low amounts however, the user does not feel high but also does not have intense cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug administered for this purpose, but there are alternative options to choose from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an out-patient clinic licensed to dispense the drug, that is taken daily in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is around $150 a month. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based med, and is a pill often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone that can only be given in highly well-regulated medical centers, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is approximately just under $300 monthly for the generic of the medication. There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, that is a med that blocks the effects of opioids. An individual taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and costs about $450 per month. Naltrexone is an additional medication used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned it is an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 /month.
