Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centers - South Range, WI.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near South Range which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will ideally no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do provide a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
