Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - St. Germain, WI.

There are programs available in or near St. Germain that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will instead not become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment goal is to treat the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do provide a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
