Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Stoddard, WI.

There are addiction programs available in or near Stoddard that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will ideally not engage in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do provide a small amount of counseling and therapy as secondary services, and it is encouraged.
