Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Union Center, WI.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Union Center which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will instead not become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do deliver a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
