Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Programs - Wild Rose, WI.

There are programs offered in or near Wild Rose which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will ideally no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary treatment, and this is encouraged.
