Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do deliver a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary services, and this is encouraged.
