Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Center Point, WV.

There are programs offered in or near Center Point which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate addicted client will ideally no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment objective is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do offer a small amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary services, and it is encouraged.
