Mental health treatment has become an important component of the treatment of addiction disorders, due to the fact that many individuals with substance abuse issues also suffer with a co-occurring mental health problem. The need for dual diagnosis treatment has become more and more apparent over the last few years, and many treatment centers in Four States also offer dual diagnosis treatment as part of a wider range of services in addition to traditional and more progressive rehabilitation methods.
In most cases, mental health treatment starts with the initial diagnosis of an individual's disorder, especially when substance abuse is involved. Often, the client doesn't initially even know they have an anxiety disorder or are suffering with depression until it is discovered in a mental health physician's office or treatment facility. Once diagnosed, actions can be completed to help the individual become mentally stable, and this can involve the use of various psychotherapies, counseling, and perhaps medication administration or cessation of medication. In many cases however, clients struggling with a dual diagnosis are attempting to self-medicate with substance use or perhaps misusing their medications. In these instances, professional staff and mental health practitioners can assess medication histories and propose actions which can be taken to eliminate the need for medication. Clients can be safely weaned off of medications which may be doing more harm than good, or those which they are inclined to abuse.
