Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Hartford, WV.

There are programs available in or near Hartford that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate addicted client will ideally no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to treat the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do offer a small amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is encouraged.
