The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients.
